Support local hiring and workforce development

As a large employer, we have a tremendous opportunity to support local residents with career-track jobs and skill development that helps people thrive and builds economic stability in the community. Over 25% of the Northeastern’s employees are Boston residents, and over 10% from the neighborhoods surrounding Northeastern, helping to provide good local jobs. Furthermore, as an educational institution, workforce development opportunities in renewable energy, climate technology and other related sustainability fields will help us work towards a just transition for all.

DESCRIPTION
Expand partnership with Madison Park Vocational and other local BIPOC High Schools to Northeastern departments that align with current Madison Park programs. Look for opportunities specific to sustainability and the clean energy transition.

DESCRIPTION
Continue to hire local youth as part of the City’s summer job program and workers through the City’s PowerCorps green jobs training program, while supporting managerial staff with the training and resources to be good youth mentors.
