Justice-centered research and academics

Northeastern will enact just research and academic practices that advance equitable solutions to the climate and intersecting crises.

Northeastern’s academic plan, Northeastern 2025: Experience Unleashed, identifies three grand challenges that Northeastern is uniquely situated to address: health, security, and sustainability. Our teaching and research are particularly impactful because of our connections to those on the front lines of the climate crisis. When we work with communities for the purpose of teaching and research, we must bring a justice lens to ensure that academic endeavors are mutually beneficial and do not create an extractive dynamic between Northeastern faculty and community members. Ensuring that these relationships are accountable, inclusive, and equitable is critical to advancing climate justice solutions.
