Expand community access to academic resources

Through community-based programs, admission, and financial aid initiatives, Northeastern creates pathways to college and degree completion. The Northeastern Boston Valedictorian Scholarship, the Boston Housing Authority Scholarship and Northeastern Neighborhood Scholarship specifically serve Boston residents.

In 1983, Balfour Academy was established at Northeastern University to help Boston students acquire the skills and self-assurance required for a successful college education. The academy conducts a summer enrichment program to supplement the regular school curriculum and aid students in achieving this objective.

The Lowell Institute School is part of Northeastern University’s College of Professional Studies with more than 50 years of experience aligning higher education with professional aspirations. The program offers undergraduate degrees in high-demand STEM fields. In 2023, thirty-five of the current students came from the City of Boston with 19 of them transitioning to Northeastern from Bunker Hill Community College and Roxbury Community College.
