Decarbonization
About the Plan
Beginning with our Massachusetts campuses, our goal is to transform our facilities over the next 30 years to eliminate carbon emissions from building operations—surpassing state and city decarbonization targets, enhancing energy resilience, supporting growth and change, and aligning with climate justice priorities. To achieve greenhouse gas reduction goals, the university will reduce energy use through efficiency measures, replace carbon-intensive energy sources, and, as a last step, offset any unavoidable emissions from building-operations.
The Planning, Real Estate, and Facilities (PREF) team is collaborating with stakeholders to assess strategies, evaluate scenarios and develop a comprehensive plan focused on energy efficiency and cleaner energy sources. Anticipated for completion in 2025, this plan will provide a roadmap with key milestones to achieve our goals and systematically invest in a more sustainable campus.
